Welcome to the Lab

A place to dive deeper, to play, and to continue to study yoga.
A space for connection, collaboration, and community.
An opportunity to experiment.

“This is a space to dive deeper into the study of yoga with more focused class series, monthly intro to yoga sessions, and trainings with guest teachers from around the world. We’ll host community events like book clubs and plant workshops, and be a place you can hang out and meet new people. Last but not least, we'll get to explore what our teachers are passionate about: from ayurveda to trauma sensitive yoga and everything in between.”

Founder and Owner Kim Struglinski on the intention of the Lab.

GRAND OPENING | JULY 7-9 |

GRAND OPENING | JULY 7-9 |

Join us for a weekend of free sampler classes, new class types, and the return of some studio favorites.

Friday, July 7

  • Kick off your weekend with a free class! Build strength and flexibility in these dynamic classes. We start slow, hold poses for anywhere from one to five or more breaths, and gradually link breath to movement. We end slow with stretching, rest, and meditation. Always open to all levels.

  • This 30 minute sampler of the Roll Model Method will guide you through self-myofascial release of your feet using Yoga Tune Up Balls. The use of therapy balls can help relieve tight fascia and muscles, lessen chronic pain, and help counteract the effects of our everyday lives on our bodies. We'll focus on the feet in this class to help you feel more open throughout your entire body by showing your base of support a little extra love.

  • HOW stands for Hour of Wisdom, our new signature class style.

Each class is an hour of yoga that showcases the wisdom of your teacher. HOW Yoga merges Hatha and Vinyasa styles and weaves in each teacher’s unique knowledge, interests, and energy. The beauty of this class is that it changes from teacher to teacher, day to day. This class is co-created by the teacher and the students, with the energy, needs, and interests of all present in mind. You can expect to move mindfully and challenge yourself both physically and mentally in these classes. Class can include periods of movement linked to breath along with intentional holds of postures. This is mindful yoga that helps you know your bones: how your body moves and shows up in postures, how your breath travels through your body, and how your mind makes meaning out of what you’re experiencing.

  • Come celebrate the opening of the Lab and hang out with us! We’ll have some light sips and snacks. We’ll also host a book and plant swap with a bring one get one policy: bring a book get a book, or bring a plant and get a book, or bring both - it’s up to you! You don’t need to bring anything to join the social, but the book and plant swap is a way for you to meet your fellow HOW Yoga community members.

Saturday, July 8

  • HOW stands for Hour of Wisdom, our new signature class style. This free 30 minute sampler will give you a taste of this class style which showcases the wisdom of your teacher. • This 30 minute class is a great place to begin your meditation practice or expand upon your own current practice. You'll be guided through a creative meditation written by your teacher, which also pull on her knowledge of anatomy. This class is open to and appropriate for all levels, whether you're brand new or meditate daily.

  • This free 30 minute class is the perfect place to start if you’re new to yoga. In Foundations of Yoga, you'll learn the what, why, and how behind our yoga practice. Class will include a detailed explanation of the poses and techniques used that day in this practice that draws from the Hatha and Vinyasa yoga styles. Variations and prop use will be offered for all poses so that you are empowered to make your practice work for your body each time you step onto your mat.

  • This one hour class focuses on the use of the Coregeous Ball, a soft inflatable ball, as a way to practice self-myofacial release around the entire core. We'll dive deeper into the anatomy of the core (and what even IS your core?) along with massaging around your core and torso using the Coregeous ball. This is a great class for relieving back, hip, and shoulder pain as well as for general mobility and relaxation.

Sunday, July 9

  • This free 30 minute sampler will introduce a few of the instruments used in a sound bath which can include singing bowls, chimes, gongs, and tuning forks. In this sampler you'll get a brief overview of the purpose of a sound bath, an introduction to the instruments used, and a short seated sound bath to experience it for yourself.

  • This free 30 minute class includes a gentle trauma sensitive yoga practice presented by our friends at Listening First Yoga.

This practice uses gentle yoga movements, invitational language, and interoceptive cues focused on mind-body connection to invite you to practice making choices and building relationship with your body on your terms. We often start seated, move toward standing, and then return to the ground. All elements of this practice are optional. The facilitator stays on their mat and practices with you, and there are no physical assists (touching) in this class. At the end of the practice, we’ll have a brief rest period and then time for optional sharing and grounding. Suitable for all practice levels. Participants should be comfortable getting down to the floor and standing back up.

Note: your yoga facilitator is not a mental health clinician, and yoga practices are not intended as a substitute for professional mental health care. For 24-hour mental health support or to find resources in your area, call the statewide mental health hotline at 1-800-274-7471.

  • Learn the value and meaning of regulation, and practice techniques for soothing your body and mind when in-distress emotionally. This free one hour workshop will guide you through 10-15 techniques you can use when in distress. Come on your own, or bring a loved one or friend with you!

Your teacher, Kelsey Riddle, LMFT is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist that specializes in individuals, couples, & relationships.

(While these are emotional regulation techniques, this is not a group therapy session.)

  • The Teaching Lab, formerly known as Industry Nights, is a space for teachers to learn new skills, try out new things, get feedback from and connect with fellow yoga teachers, and enjoy a sense of community.

This session will include an overview of fascia: what it is and why it matters. You'll learn how it applies in a yoga practice and how to start to talk about it when you teach. You'll walk away with a better understanding of how fascia impacts your students and how they show up in poses, along with a way to start to teach them about fascia, and you'll even have the chance to try out sprinkling this into your teaching and get feedback from your fellow teachers. We'll provide resources for further learning in case you're interested in going deeper.

FAQs: The Lab

Are you moving?

Nope! We’re expanding. If you’re already a current student, the space you know and love is still a space where we hold classes. That space (suite 285) is now known as the Studio. We’ve just added a second room down the hall on the same floor of the building - it’s right at the top of the stairs.

What will be changing?

Not much! If you take classes with us already, most class locations and offerings aren’t changing at all. We won’t be taking any classes off the schedule, so no worries there! The main change will be that some of your current classes might move into the Lab, and some new class times are being introduced in the Lab, so just double check on your MindBody booking (or in your confirmation email) for the class location.

How do I know where my class takes place?

Classes and workshops will have a room listed in Mindbody, so just double check on your MindBody booking for the class location. Your confirmation email and reminder email will also list whether class takes place in the Lab (suite 254) or the Studio (suite 285).

Do you have mats available for rent?

We have all the props you need in both the Lab and the Studio! There is no rental fee to use yoga mats. Both spaces are equipped with mats, blocks, blankets, and bolsters.

When will the Lab be opening?

We’ll be testing new things in this space immediately! We’ve been hard at work getting the space ready and feeling like home, but of course want to test out the flow and layout during some actual classes. We’ll be hosting our actual grand opening celebration the weekend of July 7-9, so stay tuned for more details!

Will the Lab be open to other small businesses?

As a long time small business in Nashville, it’s important to us to continue to support and give back to the amazing community of SBOs and entrepreneurs right here in our town. This is a space for connection, community, and collaboration, and we’d love to host you! To inquire about hosting an event at The Lab or even just to brainstorm, please fill out this form.

Want to use the Lab?

If you want to host an event or are a small business owner and want to collaborate on a workshop, reach out! We’re always happy to connect and see how we can partner with you.
