Whole30

IMG_7267I like to think I’m a pretty healthy person.  I don’t drink soda, I usually pack a (pretty healthy) lunch, and I work out regularly.  Yet still I struggle with migraines and lately I’ve been feeling in a bit of a rut, and getting pretty exhausted by the end of the day.  I’ve tried a lot of different things for my migraines (gluten and dairy free, different medications, physical therapy, low-tyramine diet, exercising a lot, acupuncture, cupping) with varying levels of success. Lately, I’ve been stress-eating a lot and have only wanted to come home and sit on the couch and go to bed by 8:30 pm.  So I’ve decided I need to make a change.  I made a pact with a friend for no-cookie August, but I want to take it farther. The Whole30 program keeps popping up on my radar, and I keep hearing about the amazing life changes people have experienced from it.  I’ve wanted to do a Whole30 for a while, and I decided that it’s finally time for me to give it a try.  I’m starting my Whole30 today.  I know most people wait to start at the beginning of a month, but since I will be traveling a lot starting in September, I wanted to get a jump start on the program.  Is it going to be hard?  I bet.  Is it going to be hard to keep up while traveling?  I know it will be. But I want to do this to get out of my rut of coming home and snacking, eating when I’m stressed, and to see what impact it could have on my health.  Yes, I’m hoping for more energy and fewer migraines, and maybe even a happier tummy, but even if I just learn some yummy recipes, I will consider it a success.  There’s never a right time for anything, and you never really feel “ready” for things until you do them, so I’m diving in today to give this journey a try.  I’m going to take it one week at a time, and every day I follow along will be a victory for me.  Wish me luck!P.S. Here's a link to the book that outlines the Whole30 as well.
