Weekend 1: Greenways and Grammys
I packed my first full weekend here full of fun activities!Friday night I was pretty wiped so I enjoyed some Chipotle alfresco on The Commons then spent the night browsing various websites to find all the awesome things I want to do while I'm in town. I had quite a list by the end of the night, so I decided I needed to divy it up if I had any hope of getting things done - otherwise I'd just stick to a routine and never try anything new!SaturdayI slept a little in on Saturday because I was up pretty late (for me) thanks to the lounge that's right outside my door and its popularity with the locals (students/proctors here for a summer program). I decided to head off to Shelby Bottoms Greenway to check out part of the trail and greenway there. Nashville has an amazing network of greenways and has a plan to develop them further, and Shelby Bottoms did not disappoint! I found myself in an open field less than 10 minutes from downtown Nashville. It was amazing. So peaceful and quiet. I loved it! I'm definitely going to explore some of the other greenways - it's a great place to walk and run and get my much-needed nature fix. After sweating it out in the morning I got some BBQ in a little neighborhood called 12south. Edley's BBQ seemed to be quite popular and it also did not disappoint. I tested out their pork BBQ (gotta compare it to NC pulled pork) and while it was different from my favorite Eastern Carolina style barbecue, it was delicious in a new way. I was about done sweating for the day after that so I spent the rest of the afternoon in the shade reading magazines and books. I got to go to bed early which was great, and got lots of sleep that night!SundayI was able to get up pretty early and head over to Centennial Park to try to beat the heat for a run on their mile-long loop around the park. It's a beautiful place to run over there, but even before 9 am it was HOT!After that I grabbed some lunch at a cute little coffee shop with a hearty menu, Fido. I'm sure this will become one of my more regular places - great menu, lots of seating, interesting people, and walking distance. My big afternoon excursion was to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. I had a great time walking through the history of country music and seeing some awesome artifacts. Here are a few of my favorites:I'll take some ponies on my car and a sparkly dress or two, please! We'll have an event at CMHOF during CommonVU so while I mostly went to enjoy myself, it was also good to become familiar with the venue. I was pretty tired after a jam-packed weekend, so I made my way home, got some groceries, and called it a night after that, ready for a new work week. I'm looking forward to this weekend already!
